“Mindfulness Plain & Simple” has been re-released and is getting 5 star reviews! Go here to check it out. Here is some info about the book:
From the back cover:
“Books about spirituality are usually deep, touching and philosophical. They make you want to think about the meaning of life, tell your friends about the secrets you found… and end up back where you started. This is not a book about spirituality, it’s a short cut to happiness. Direct, no-nonsense and down-to-earth, Oli Doyle is the meditation teacher you wish you had in high school. His secular, jargon-free approach to the practice of Mindfulness is putting people all over the world in charge of their own happiness (and putting psychiatrists out of business) by taking the mystery out of meditation. Oli spent years going from practice to practice and teaching to teaching in the modern spiritual marketplace. Confused and frustrated, he stumbled upon a simple path to happiness and wondered why no-one told him about it before! The simple practices described in “Mindfulness Plain & Simple” map the short path Oli eventually found, showing you how to find the happiness that’s already here right now.”
From the first chapter:
“Believing painful thoughts causes pain, even
when your life is wonderful, and nothing that happens to you can prevent you
from being peaceful and happy. Only listening to the voice in your head can do
that, and that is the human condition.” Mindfulness Plain & Simple

Good evening
I was wondering if you will be running another workshop in Melbourne after the January one? I’m interested in attending but I’ll be away in January. I was very impressed about the program on SBS about the change of that young girl’s brain! I work as a nurse in a community health service and have been telling everyone who’ll listen about the changes in the girl’s brain! Amazing!

Mindfulness Plain and Simple Review
The concept of Mindfulness is one that has been popping up in my life for the last few years. As a volunteer telephone counselor I have sometimes heard the term used in relation to helping callers steady their anxiety and observe and explore challenging emotions. In recent years my husband’s workplace has instituted a cultural ‘audit’ as a means of encouraging individual and organizational health and well-being. As part of this process, employees attended Mindfulness workshops and were given CDs to support their practice at home. The ABC recently ran a series about happiness, and Mindfulness figured largely as a means of experiencing a more joyful and peaceful life. As is often the case for me, the little book ‘Mindfulness Plain and Simple’ fell into my hands at a very opportune time, providing a much needed and authoritative but accessible explanation of Mindfulness ‘in a nutshell’.
The beauty of this slim volume (easily fits into bag or briefcase) is that it manages to provide the background, benefits and practice of Mindfulness in an enlightening discussion that can be read in a couple of sittings. The contents page clearly sets out the three parts of the book so that one can then return to check and revise their understanding of theory and practice. Oli peppers his discussion with personal anecdotes which help to establish an everyday, practical feel – I could really relate to some of his experiences and it’s reassuring to know that this is a lifelong endeavor for even the most experienced practitioner.
Thank you, Oli, for writing this most helpful and inspiring guide.
Andrea.
